1’6″ x 1’4″ Tabriz, 19th century, Northwest Persia

The capital of the NW Iranian province of Iran, Tabriz is a major production center of finely woven rugs, This mat (pushti) illustrates a prayer design containing birds within a floral backdrop. Its quality is usually attributed to the designer Haji Jalili. The rug dates to the end of the 19th century, and is in excellent condition.
