3’x4’3″ Kirghiz Ensi, 19th century, Kyrgyzstan.
An ensi is used as a door flap to the entrance of the yurt. This Kirghiz example is an important and rare collectible carpet – a similar piece can be found in Elena Tsareva’s seminal work, Rugs and Carpets from Central Asia (The Russian Collection, plate 140).
