4’2″ x 6’3″ Karabagh; 1880, South Caucasus

Karabagh is a district that to this day is hotly contested by the nations of Armenia and Azerbaijan.  Its rugs often resemble their more famous neighbors, the Kazaks.  This example has an abrashed green field containing latch-hooked medallion ornaments.  The crab design major border is also found in other Karabaghs, notably Chondzoresks and Chelaberds.
