3’6″ x 6’1″ Perepedil Kuba; late 19th century, East Caucasus

Perepedil is a town in the Eastern Caucasus. It is a famous type and well-illustrated in the literature. Bennett illustrates several in his book Oriental Rugs Volume 1: Caucasian.  All depict this field design format:  “ram’s horns” ascending the sides with large bird forms in between.  This example has a more simple border configuration than most, lacking the typical Cufic border.
